Where we study and practice the true essence of Budo (the martial way). SeiZan Dojo was founded by chief instructor Luis Santos Jr. with the purpose of disseminating the spirit and beliefs of Tenshin Bugei Gakuen Dojo. Santos Sensei is devoted to teaching the real fighting techniques in Aikido and not just the movement. In turn SeiZan Dojo (a.k.a Sunstate Aikido Dojo) was the first school to be recognized by Tenshin Dojo's head instructor Haruo Matsuoka Sensei, apart from Take Shigemichi Sensei's Dojo in Los Angeles, California. Aikido is a powerful method of self defense that can be studied by people of all ages. It consists of joint locks, throws, and controlling techniques that use the power of the attacker against them. At SeiZan Dojo we teach Tenshin Aikido, Ryu Sei Ken Kenjutsu and Eishin Ryu Iaido. We have classes for adults and teens. Our classes involve empty hand techniques and the use of weapons such as the jo (short staff) and the bokken (wooden sword). Aikido is not a religion; however, it is education and refinement of the spirit. In Japan there is a saying there should be a balance in the development of both the spiritual and the physical self.

Tenshin Bugei Gakuen, was started in the United States by Steven Seagal Sensei in 1982. The purpose of establishing Tenshin Bugei Gakuen Dojo was to spread Aikido, a Japanese Martial Art as well as the Japanese culture and traditions.

Seagal Sensei also known as Take Sensei, had studied Aikido and many other styles of martial arts in Japan. He also was a calligraphy student of Master Seiseki Abe. In the early 1970's Take Sensei opened Tenshin Dojo in Osaka, Japan to teach Aikido. At that time, he was the only foreigner in Japan to operate a dojo. He was also the only foreigner to hold master credentials in Aikido. Upon returning to the United States in 1982, Take Sensei established Tenshin Bugei Gakuen in Taos, New Mexico and subsequently moved to Los Angeles in 1983. At that time Take Sensei brought Haruo Matsuoka Sensei to the United States. Matsuoka studied under Seagal at Tenshin Dojo in Osaka, Japan. Matsuoka Sensei was the chief instructor of Tenshin Bugei Gakuen Dojo until he resigned in 1997 to move back to Japan with his family.
